Brand YOU!

This is a post from the Webmaster of this site.

You know that feeling created by a prestigious brand name?

Read each name below and think about the images that pop into your mind.

Mercedes Benz

Lamborghini

Astin Martin

Porsche

Ferrari

Good names. Each of them paint an image of prestige, power, and exclusivity.

Several years ago I was doing web development for a business owned by a very successful gentleman that had a stellar track record as an executive and as a political adviser guiding nearly 100 political campaigns throughout his career.  For privacy I will simply refer to him as “Dave”.

Dave flew me down to his headquarters to discuss business and for me to help him prepare a presentation for his upcoming corporate shareholder’s meeting.   When we met, I was impressed by his ability to choose his words with surgical precision.   I should mention that this was a rather large guy weighing nearly 400lbs who beamed with street-smart confidence.  His car was evidence that he had “made it” in the world.

A business colleague I was with told me the story about the car as we admired it in the corporate parking lot.  It was sleek red convertible that looked like a Mercedes, but somehow it still seemed understated by not having any badges.  That’s right.  No medallions.  No model numbers or manufacturer advertisements drilled through the steel.  It just looked like an incredibly nice car that didn’t need to brag through a manufacturer’s emblem.  My colleague explained that the car was, in fact, a Mercedes Benz… at least… it was made BY Mercedes Benz.  For Dave, being a big guy with more than enough money to choose his luxuries, when he was ready to buy his car he flew to Germany to the Mercedes Benz factory to have them build a car specifically to fit him.  Dave’s ride was actually a Mercedes Benz “Dave”.

That custom car is much like the custom suits from Master Tailor Jin Lee of Indianapolis-based Lee’s Custom Tailoring.  It’s one thing to have one of the finest suits in the world. It’s quite another to have it custom made to fit you — exactly you — only you.  Forget about the label or the brand.  When it’s a custom suit by Master Tailor Jin Lee, you can walk with pride in knowing that you are wearing the best suit you can get at any price.
